African-American History Hike to John Brown House and Monument

The Summit County Historical Society is happen to partner with the Akron Zoo and the City of Akron for The University of Akron’s ReThinking Race program in 2020 for an African-American History Hike to John Brown House and Monument: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

The trolley will leave Bierce Library turnaround on The University of Akron campus off Buchtel Avenue. Please dress for the weather as the trolley route includes stops where guests will get off, and at one point, they will hike to the John Brown Monument.

8:00 PM - 10:00 PM: Film Festival: Just Mercy at Jean Hower Taber Student Union Theatre

Just Mercy shadows world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson as he recounts his experiences and details the case of a condemned death row prisoner whom he fought to free.

ZPN Movies Series: Just Mercy

Just Mercy is a 2019 American legal drama film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, and Brie Larson. It tells the true story of Walter McMillian, who with the help of young defense attorney Bryan Stevenson appeals his murder conviction. The film is based on the memoir of the same name, written by Bryan.

Students are free with a valid Zip Card, and all other guests are $2!
