Boonshoft Museum Of Discovery
The mission of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is to be the premier regional provider of interactive science learning experiences which enrich the lives of children and adults, enhance the quality of life in our community, and promote a broad understanding of the world. To preserve, protect, and enhance the Museum’s anthropology, geology, paleontology, and biology collections, and to make these collections available for exhibition, education, and research purposes.
Our Vision is to be the premier regional provider of interactive learning experiences which enrich the lives of children of all ages, enhance the quality of life in our community, and promote deeper understanding of the world.
The Boonshoft is geared toward kids aged 5 to 10. They lose a couple stars because many of their exhibits are broken, and because they have several areas that are essentially playgrounds with no educational value at all. In that regard kids younger than 5 may enjoy being there just so they can play with the various plastic toys. I really wish they would step up their educational game. The cloud chamber and exoplanet exhibit deserve special mention, because they really do introduce the kids to new ideas, and could be interesting to kids over 10.
We love this place! Super blessed and thankful to live so close to such an amazing facility! It's our home away from home in inclement weather as it's educational fun and spacious. We also love that they have live animals. My favorite are the otters!
The kids loved it. Entire place was stroller friendly. The gentleman who ran the planetarium shows was my favorite. You could tell he really enjoyed his job was, very knowledgeable about what he was teaching and was willing to answer my kids questions and show them a few more stuff on the screen after the show. I didn't expect there not to be a regular food court, but that's was my own mistake. Will definitely return for more family trips in the future.
The museum does a great job of incorporating their natural history roots with a child friendly learning environment. The zoo is a big plus for children and adults. I may be a little bias as I proposed to my fiancee in the zoo with the help and coordination of the natural history curators and zoo keepers. They have great event space for large groups and be sure to check out the treehouse for bird watchers.
The museum was super engaging! The staff were attentive and friendly. An amazing time for the family!
