Hungarian culture will come alive at the Hungarian Scout Festival on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the German Central Park, 7863 York Rd., in Parma, Ohio. This is Ohio's largest Hungarian festival! Freshly made ethnic foods will satisfy the palate, and live Hungarian music and colorfully costumed folk dancers will entertain throughout the day. There will be free arts and crafts for kids, and games and activities for visitors of all ages. The festival, celebrating its 61st year, will commence at 10:30 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony followed at 11 a.m. with catholic and protestant church services in Hungarian. The kitchens open at noon serving Hungarian delicacies such as stuffed cabbage, fresh sausages, grilled pork steak, goulash, chicken paprikas with dumplings, jam filled crepes, and "lángos" (elephant ears). The Café Budapest features scrumptious tortes, strudels, pastries, fresh baked breads and espresso coffee. There will be live musical entertainment all afternoon by Hungarian bands. Activities such as soccer matches, live animal programs, challenging kids' games, a book fair, and folk art presentations will be topped off by performances of the Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble every half hour from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Crafts, souvenirs and novelty items also will be for sale. This year's raffle will offer a bonanza of prizes that will have something of interest to most everyone. Sponsored by the American Hungarian Friends of Scouting.
