History:

Sugar Pines Farm was started by Glenn and Carol Battles when they purchased the 100 acre farm in 1977.  At that time they were both self- employed and the farm was a retirement investment.  The land had not been used as a working farm for many years and had a history of being a tenant farm in the 30s, 40s and 50s.

Initially there were no plans for farming until Glenn's brother Ramon introduced the idea of Christmas trees by showing Glenn how to shear some of the white pines that had been planted for reforestation by the farm's former owners.

The Christmas tree idea took root and Glenn and Carol and their children began clearing and planting the field that had been abandoned and neglected for 25 years.  The crop has grown from an initial planting of 3,000 trees to about 22,000 trees spread across 30 acres today.

Over the years the Battles and Sugar Pines have been honored numerous times for their high quality trees.  Most recently, the farm was honored with first place in the Spruce category at the 2011 National Christmas Tree Association convention.
